Jesudevan Viveganandam
Professor V. Jesudevan is President of the Centre for Trade Excellence, where he leads initiatives to strengthen institutional capabilities, develop regulatory frameworks and foster international cooperation in trade governance, economic security and regulatory compliance.
Drawing on more than two decades of experience across government, legal practice and international advisory work, Jesudevan works with governments, international and regional organisations, and industry to address complex challenges at the intersection of trade, regulation and national security.
Jesudevan previously served as a District Judge and as Deputy Senior State Counsel in the Attorney-General's Chambers of Singapore, where he was part of the specialist financial crimes team. As a senior prosecutor, he led and oversaw the prosecution of complex financial crimes and advised government agencies on a range of legal and regulatory issues. His work involved close collaboration with Singapore's principal enforcement and regulatory authorities, including the Commercial Affairs Department, Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau, Monetary Authority of Singapore and Singapore Customs.
Before his appointment to the judiciary, Jesudevan practised commercial litigation and international arbitration at one of Singapore's largest law firms, representing multinational corporations in complex commercial and cross-border disputes.
He has particular expertise in export controls, strategic trade management and United Nations sanctions, with a special focus on measures concerning Iran and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. He has advised on the implementation and enforcement of international obligations and worked with governments and regulatory authorities across Asia and beyond to strengthen national control systems, interagency cooperation and enforcement capabilities.
Internationally, Jesudevan has contributed to initiatives undertaken with the United Nations, the European Union's Partner-to-Partner Export Control Programme for Dual-Use Goods, the United States Department of State's Export Control and Related Border Security Programme, Germany's Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA), and Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. He also served as moderator of the first United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 Peer Review in Southeast Asia, facilitating exchanges on national implementation and regional cooperation.
Alongside his leadership of the Centre, Jesudevan is Chief Executive Officer of TradeKins, a Singapore-headquartered advisory firm. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the National University of Singapore, where he teaches Compliance and Risk Management, and serves on the Board of Directors of Fraunhofer Singapore Research Ltd.
A Fulbright Scholar, Jesudevan holds a Master of Laws from New York University and was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 2005.
