Prabhakaran is a senior Data and Technology lawyer with more than 20 years of experience as a lawyer and IT professional. Currently based in Zurich, he works for a Swiss bank and wealth manager, leading the Global Technology and AI Legal team. He advises globally on all aspects of technology and AI, covering data flows, digitalization, and emerging technologies.

Prior to this, Prabhakaran set up and led the global Data Protection Legal team advising on banking secrecy, data protection, and cybersecurity. As a seasoned data lawyer, he has advised on a wide range of legal and commercial aspects of data, from rolling out compliance with GDPR (as well as other data laws) and advising on international data transfers, to advising on litigation, regulatory requests, and e-discovery matters.

Prabhakaran has also played a significant role in creating a global compliance system to manage client risks holistically and led several strategic data projects helping in global risk management while unlocking the power of data. Technology continues to be his passion and his work has supported several key technology projects such as moving global IT systems to the cloud, a multi-year, billion-dollar consolidation of core banking systems from Asia to Switzerland, and setting up strategic service centers in India. He continues to advise on key emerging technologies from ChatGPT to the metaverse.

A Singapore-qualified lawyer, Prabhakaran previously headed the APAC legal team for the same bank, handling its technology, data, outsourcing, IP, and real estate matters. He also worked for some law firms and a telco in Singapore, advising them on technology, data, and IP.

Prabhakaran has also led a compliance team for another Swiss bank, managing data risks for a global compliance and risk data platform focused on addressing global and group-wide regulatory and risk issues. Before turning to law, he was a computer engineer and IT professional at a large US multinational corporation.
